As we look to take our small group of believers that the Lord has given us and transform it into a small body of Christ, we are investing in the men. We have started a Monday night men’s bible study (we focus on stories) and prayer time. Pastor Jeu has developed an excellent teaching plan on living out the principles of life in Christ. As we work on the discipleship process with these men, we are starting a new aspect of the Christian life, intercessory prayer. Our vision is to train these men to pray for one another and be genuine with one another. This is not an easy task. So please pray for us and the spiritual lives of the men in our small group. These are the future leaders God is gathering for the little body of Christ.
For those of you who have not keep up with us, Ellen has been in the states for most of the year for medical reasons. Wayne has been batching it while in Brazil by himself. This has made it an expensive year for us both in a personal cost and ministry finances. This year has taken a toll on our ministry fund. As we head into the end of the year, we find our ministry reserve funds shrinking. So we could use some help by individuals making one-time donations. Please, prayerful considering making an end of year donation to our ministry fund. You can use your credit card at this link (just select “Patton, Wayne & Ellen”) or mail a check. Wayne was off the field for little over a month. This was just after the summer break for the locals here in Brazil. So how did the ministry startup go without Wayne? Not smoothly, but it is functioning. Some cracks have developed in the ministry while Wayne was back in the States. It is nice to know you are needed but the goal over time is to work my self out of a job here on the island. It is clear we still have a lot of work to do before we get to that point. We do need your prayers! Ellen is still off the field, and we are hoping she will return in October. Some of the believers I expected to step up and lead, did not. Another looks as if he might drop out. So please keep our ministry in your prayers as Wayne picks up the pieces.
It was great having the opportunity to visit with Ellen for August and part of September. We had the chance to spend time with our kids and extended family. There were a few church visits tucked in and best of all Wayne got to see his six-month-old grandson for the first time. What a great joy this was for Wayne. The time went by very fast and did not make up for the six months we were separated. Which means that when it was time to return to Brazil, there were tears, we wanted to come back at the same time, but Ellen is not yet finished with her physical therapy. Please pray that the time remaining will go quickly and without further complications.
